If you’re employed or in the process of looking for a job, you’ll probably be dealing with your boss on a regular basis. Your relationship can greatly affect your career advancement, salary, and overall mental well-being. There’s no way around them, and it’s in your best interest to put most superlative foot forward and learn how to deal and handle them with ease. Below you will find some suggestions that we believe may improve your relationship with your boss, or at least help you understand them better.

  1. Keep in mind that your boss may be of help sometimes. Whether your boss has good management skills or not; he may have insightful advice for you to utilize on the job. There’s much to learn from a bad boss- just remember, odds are they didn’t get their job simply from their looks. Even the worst of bosses have word of wisdom or two.
  2. Know and understand your boss’s expectations. Your relationship is symbiotic- meaning that if you’re successful in your job, so is your boss. Both of you rely on each other to accomplish tasks at hand, and your boss may have his/her boss come down on them if you fail to meet goals that were established. And we all know where the ax is going to fall if that happens- right at your neck.
  3. Meet your boss’s expectations. Tip number two and this one go hand in hand. If you fail to accomplish the goals and objectives your boss has placed upon you, you have no one to blame but yourself. If the task is too obtuse for one person to handle or the assignment is unrealistic in nature, it’s up to you to approach your boss, enlighten him/her on your predicament, and either suggest an alternative or ask for advice on how to complete your job. Bosses across the nation would never begrudge an employee for occasionally checking on their performance status. It’s a great way to find out if you’re performing where your boss needs you to be.
  4. Keep yourself squared away. Bosses hate nothing more than an employee that’s high maintenance. They will grow to question your ability and skill if they have to check your work continuously. They’d appreciate an employee they can depend on in a crunch, and understand if you make the occasional mishap- it’s going to happen and does so to everyone. Be the employee who doesn’t need to be told what to do at every turn, and take responsibility for achievements as well as trouble areas.
  5. Be up front with your boss. If you’ve made an error or totally tanked on a project, then fess up immediately with a plan of action to rectify the problem if possible. You don’t want the news to reach them from one of your co-workers; or even worse- their boss or a client. This also applies to successful tasks and good news that will improve your boss’s job and work.
  6. Give your boss “props” in your success. When you receive accommodations for work well done, it’s not the time to say that you worked damn hard with no thanks to your boss. Recognize them for their contributing factor in your triumph- even if it was so minute you can’t recognize it. If your boss is truly the ogre who barks commands and never lifts a finger to help, then now is not the time to address that.
  7. Don’t get personally involved in your work. Easier said than done for some of us. However, when your work gets criticized you take it as a personal attack. By allowing your personal feelings to take over your professionalism, your work may start to lack- you may question your ability and produce less than stellar work. Just remember, your boss’s success is directly linked to your getting the job done right and competently. Not all bosses are able to recognize this, but they wouldn’t assign something to you they didn’t think you could accomplish. So, get it done right the first time- just the way they want it.
  8. Don’t make your boss look bad. Upstaging them is one of the quickest ways to professional suicide. Correcting them in public as well as pointing out their faults will lead them to resent you. If they believe they misspoke during a presentation, but truly haven’t, then you can point out that they were correct the first time. Any other situation could land you in hot water.
  9. Handle your boss if needed. It’s horrible to think that you may have to manage or handle your boss, but it happens a lot. It’s a definite if you’re looking to climb the ladder quicker then most. Manipulation in the good of the job isn’t the most professional method to get what you want. But folks do it everyday- especially if their boss is less than desirable. What’s better is to take the initiative, look for opportunities that will pull you away from the rest of the pack. Suggest a new S.O.P. and explain how it would benefit the business as a whole. Go further in asking his assistance to redirect upper management from saying no until you can prove it’s successful. This way your keeping the boss in the loop even you if really aren’t.

  1. Be mature enough to take ownership over your own actions. 
  2. Keep a consistent routine, – Take regular breaks throughout the day, – Have a healthy diet and healthy eating habits, – Exercise, exercise and exercise daily preferably in the early morning, – Sleep for 6/7 hrs daily. 
  3. Let yourself be you. Most of us walk around pretending to be someone were not, in order to fit in or please others. Thats an extraordinarily stressful way to live. 
  4. Learn to love yourself. Take good care of yourself as a primary priority, others come second. Give your self permission to play and healthy entertainment more, no matter what anyone else thinks. If you are happy you can give happiness to others. Always remember you can give and contribute to others what you possess. 
  5. Make someday today. Do something today, however small, to make our world more beautiful, peaceful and lovable. 
  6. Learn to listen to your body  Pay attention to changes in your body (illness and other symptoms), might be asking you to make changes in your lifestyle and schedules. 
  7. Don’t get sucked into drama and negativity in relationships. Relationships are easy to make but difficult to maintain. Focus on doing what you need to do and dont try to change others. 
  8. Make room for the divine in your life daily. Find your own divine path. Key is you must feel fresh, relaxed and happy after divine interval � Freshness, Relaxation and inner happiness must be on increase.

What is High Blood Pressure?

When you have your blood pressure taken, your health care provider is measuring the pressure, or tension, that blood exerts on the walls of the blood vessels as it travels around the body. In a healthy person, this pressure is just enough for the blood to reach all the cells of the body, but not so much that it strains blood vessel walls. 

Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg).

  • A typical normal blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg, or “120 over 80.”
  • The first number represents the pressure when the heart contracts.
  • The second number represents the pressure when the heart relaxes.
  • Blood pressure greater than 140/90 mm Hg is considered high.

Generally, blood pressure will go up at certain times – for instance, if you smoke a cigarette, win the lottery, or witness a car crash – and will return to normal when the stressful or exciting event has passed.

But when blood pressure is high all the time, the continuous increased force on blood vessel walls can damage blood vessels and organs, including the heart, kidneys, eyes, and brain.

The medical term for high blood pressure is hypertension.

Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure: Blood travels through blood vessels much like water through a garden hose. The blood in the vessels is under pressure just like the water in a hose when the tap is turned on. With each heartbeat more blood is pumped into the vessels – like turning up the tap – so the pressure rises. This is the systolic blood pressure, the first number in the blood pressure measurement, which is normally around 120. Between heartbeats, while the heart is resting, the pressure in the arteries is lower. This is the diastolic pressure, second number in the blood pressure measurement, which is normally around 80.

Indication of high blood pressure

You can increase the pressure in a hose either by turning up the tap or by putting a crimp in the hose (that is, by narrowing the hose). In this same way, the blood pressure in blood vessels will rise if fluid flows more forcefully or if the arteries are narrowed. Pressure in a hose can be regulated either by controlling the rate at which fluid passes through it or by widening it. Likewise, the pressure in the blood vessels can be controlled, with medications that act on the heart or blood vessels and with certain lifestyle modifications.

Although high blood pressure can be extremely dangerous, it usually causes no symptoms – so many people don’t even realize they have it. High blood pressure can only be detected with accurate and repeated measurements of a person’s blood pressure. That’s one reason why it’s so important to have regular medical checkups.

Even though high blood pressure can be treated safely and effectively, only about one-quarter of people who have high blood pressure take the necessary steps to keep their blood pressure within a normal range.

There are three types of hypertension:

  1. Primary hypertension (essential hypertension). This is high blood pressure for which no cause can be found. Most people with high blood pressure (90 to 95 percent) have this type of hypertension. Doctors suspect that a combination of lifestyle, diet, heredity, age, gender, race/ethnicity, hormone levels, and other factors all contribute to high blood pressure.
  2. Secondary hypertension (non-essential hypertension). This is high blood pressure for which a definite cause can be found. This type of high blood pressure accounts for only 5 to 10 percent of all cases of hypertension. Some of these causes are temporary or controllable – for instance, pregnancy or the use of certain medications – while others are chronic conditions like hormonal diseases, kidney disease, or head injuries.
  3. Isolated systolic hypertension (ISH). Older people are sometimes susceptible to another form of high blood pressure, called isolated systolic hypertension. In people with this condition, blood pressure is higher than normal when the heart beats, but returns to normal in between beats of the heart. The large difference in pressure can place additional strain on artery walls.

What Factors Affect Blood Pressure?

Blood pumped through blood vessels is always under pressure, much like water that is pumped through a garden hose. This pressure is highest in the arteries closest to the heart and gradually decreases as the blood travels around the body. Blood keeps moving around the body because there are differences in pressure in the blood vessels. Blood flows from higher-pressure areas to lower-pressure areas until it eventually returns to the heart.

Hypertension is much strain on your heart

Blood pressure is controlled by three things:

  1. How fast the heart beats (heart rate). The pace at which the heart beats, or heart rate, is counted in heartbeats per minute. Generally, when heart rate increases, blood pressure rises. When heart rate decreases, blood pressure drops.
  2. A number of things affect heart rate, including the body’s nervous system; chemical messengers called hormones, body temperature, medications, and diseases.
  3. How much blood the heart pumps with each beat (stroke volume). The amount of blood pumped out of a ventricle with each heartbeat is called stroke volume. When you’re resting, stroke volume is about the same as the amount of blood that veins carry back to the heart. But under stressful conditions, the nervous system can increase stroke volume by making the heart pump harder. Stroke volume can also be affected by certain hormones, drugs, and diseases, as well as increases or decreases in the amount of blood in the body, called blood volume.

You might also hear the term “cardiac output” used to describe the amount of blood that’s pumped through the body. Cardiac output is simply the amount of blood pumped out of a ventricle in one minute:

Cardiac output = Heart rate x Stroke volume (amount of blood pumped with each beat).

As cardiac output increases, so does blood pressure. This is why heart rate and stroke volume are important ways for the body to control blood pressure.
How difficult it is for blood to travel around the body (peripheral resistance). The third major component that affects the blood pressure is the caliber or width of the arteries. Blood traveling in narrower vessels encounters more resistance than blood traveling through a wider vessel (its harder for water to pass through a narrow pipe than a wide pipe).
Depending on what a person is doing, the amount of blood the heart pumps varies enormously. Yet the blood pressure normally remains pretty stable. That’s mainly because the body adjusts the resistance of the arteries, either widening or narrowing them as appropriate, to prevent the blood pressure from swinging wildly.
This ability to regulate the width of the blood vessels is called the peripheral resistance. Most of the resistance to blood flow in the circulation occurs in the small-diameter arteries called arterioles.

These arterioles are especially important in the immediate regulation of blood pressure. That’s because they contain specialized smooth muscle in their walls that can relax or contract, allowing the blood vessel to get wider or narrower.
